Day 49 – What a night, I don’t think I’ve been out for that long in a while.  The last time I remember was my birthday and  I think I got home around 11pm.  We started off the night early with the Rio’s Seafood Buffet.  Although I ready mediocre reviews on this place, we  wanted to at least stay we’ve been there.  So, after all that, I’ve been there.

If you were a person who just walked off the street you would have shelled out about $46 for this buffet.  Luckily, the Chans are members and get 25% off, but it’s 25% off the $40 rate, so with tax the buffet was $36 something.  It was not worth it.  There were no lobsters, which they said there would be.  The only “lobster” dish was called lobster medley, which had shrimp.  They looked like langostinos to me, which I only know because they were big in the UK.

So, I just looked it up, langostinos are also called “squat lobsters” and commonly called lobsters in seafood medley.  What a rip off.  Their marketing skills are outrageous.  I am sure people complained about the lobster.  Overall I would say I wouldn’t go back, and the money was more worth it if you went to the Carnival Buffet at the Rio.  However, I don’t know about other buffets in general.

Afterwards, we went to the Palms and saw “Tower Heist” with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.  Eddie Murphy did not play a huge role, but the movie itself overall was okay.  It is one of those movies where it would was not worth the $10.50 of the ticket, but would be good for the $5 rental for the whole family.  I honestly can’t remember when I last saw a movie in the theatres, and now I know why.

Besides the high prices and crowds of people (not that there were a lot of people), the popcorn cost too much, the seating was definitely a plus (reclines and lifted armrests), it was a little warm, there were no movie trivia playing!  What’s the matter?  Did these cost too much to play over and over again?  Anyways, it was fun.  Guess I was paying more for the entertainment value and for the company.

After that it was about 10pm and he were heading to the South Pointe Casino to see the Spazmatics.  It’s a group who look like nerds who were singing songs from the 80s.  The guy who told us about just said, “It’s a group who look like nerds who were singing songs from the 80s.”  What am I suppose to think?  Also, he said that it’ll be an older crowd, you know, people our age.  Okay.  Thought it would be fun.

So, objectively speaking, I had a good time.  All I wanted to do was sit back and listen to some good music.  You know not too loud (that’s why I hate concerts) and hopefully not too crowded (that’s why I hate concerts).  So, there was a decent crowd at the doors, only $5 to get in, which was an awesome deal.

Went in, sat down, got a drink (non-alcoholic of course), saw the dance floor in front, and I thought, oh no.  What did I get myself into.

Okay, for all my “white” friends out there (and you know who you area), you would have loved this place.  For only $5 the “show” lasted for about 3 hours with about a 40 minute break.  They played club music in between, and there were a lot of dancing and singing along.  You know me, that’s not necessarily my scene, but I can  handle it.

The band was good, if not a little off putting seeing the guys on stage look like the stereotypical nerds.  White taped glasses and all.  Had some comedy routine mixed into the music.  They played songs from the 80s, mostly one hit wonders and such, but played a variety of music.  Most of the music I like to refer to as “white people” music.

They played one song from each of the following: Billy Idol, Journey, Vanilla Ice, Pat Benatar, The Romantics, Bon Jovi (they called him heavy metal – what the ?!?!?), Def Leppard and lots more.  In general, they were pretty good, they rapped some, which was a little off for me.  The drummer was good.  They rapped the big butt song, Salt n Pepa, and a couple of other things.  And there were lots of dancing.  The drinks were cheap also, I think, $2 beers.

Anyways, overall it was the best deal of the night.  If I come back to Vegas, and I am with my “white friends” they would love it.  I think that’s about it for now.  It’s now been about 780 words, the longest post I’ve done for a while.  Heading out to dim sum and then just kicking it with the family.

Hope everyone had a good Turkey Day weekend.  Got to get back to work.
