What ever made me think that picking a permanent place to live would be easy? At least I am not freaking out, but I am definitely overwhelmed with the choices out there. So, today, I think I looked at 12-15 places. In each different community the floor plans began to blur. So, however, since the listing didn’t give me floor plan names, we (the real estate agent, Michelle) and I went into each place.
SIDE NOTE: It was in the 90′s and I’m glad I was wearing shorts. I know I got some . . . no, lots of sun today, and I think I have a tan, at least I have the sock tan line going.
Anyways. I did my little matrix and although it helped, it really came back to the two places I saw at the beginning of this little adventure. The townhomes I saw the first Saturday I got back, called Hometown, and the place where I put money down before leaving for England, which is the Westwood Villas at Broad Lake. How ironic is that. Well, the last couple of weeks, I was not going to pursue Hometown because their prices were just way too high for something I was not totally in love with. Not that I am totally in love with anything. I did love this place, but it was in Stapleton, and that was way too far of a commute for me.
So, Michelle found out that Hometown dropped their prices by about $20k, she said let’s go back and look again. I thought wow, maybe I can fall in love with it, as long as the price is right. So, I went back, and there was potential again. I did like this one, but again, I kept thinking the price was too high and A/C did not come with it. What was up with that? So, this time, the price now includes A/C and a garage door opener.
When leaving the salesperson said, “Tell me what would it take for you to buy this place” as we were leaving. So, Michelle was telling me in the car, that there was really room for negotiation, and she can try to get the fridge, washer, and dryer thrown in with the price. Hmmm…
So, off we went across the street, literally, across the road to Westwood Villas. And took a look over there again. It was a nice place. Again, not totally in love. This place was much higher priced, at least $20k more. But again, Michelle was saying she can look into it and offer something else. If I was more interested in Westwood, then she would play the card that Hometown across the street is offering this, would she counter?
So, now, at least I have two options to consider instead of wondering what’s out there. It’s a good thing, now I have to pick off of two and figure out what I want and let Michelle know what I am looking for and then see how it goes.
I am calling around for advice. If you want to give me some, be quick about it my faithful readers, as I really want to decide so that I can move forward, since I will not know how long negotiations could last. My things are in the US and has cleared customs. My 60 days of company living is dwindling. And I need to figure out about moving money and then I you can read about my angst of buying a car. Although I went through most of that already.
Oh by the way, one of my tooth fell out. Weird. But I think it was because I tripped in the office and banged my face into the wall. The wall is fine. Good thing my glasses were there to act as a bumper. My jaw or mouth did not hurt, so I did not think anything of it. I thought I saw a crack in my tooth (crown) and thought I had some time. Well, today I was eating my sandwich, and crunch…damn, spit everything out, and found my tooth. At least I am not in any pain. So, I am seeing a dentist on Friday. Hopefully, he would be able to just pop it back in. Oh wait, did I tell you this is a “fake” tooth. The tooth that popped out was not a natural one. Boy, I am sure that would have hurt.
Anyways…any advice let me know, don’t be shy, you can email it to me instead of putting it on the blog.
Sounds like Homewood is starting to shine. Negotiate HARD! Get them to give you everything you want. Be really aggressive. They’re not selling much these days, and you’re walking around with money. Ask for things until you piss them off, then ask for a couple more. You can always walk away. It would be awesome to get all your appliances and a discount on the price. Bring out your best New York attitude (or the one you had when you were a breakfast chef).
