Thursday, April 24, 2008 (oh. . . what a day . . . )

Oh, what a day it has been, or actually a week it has been.  The last time I wrote things were good, it was my B-day and many people sent me good thoughts.  Unfortunately, dear Cousin Margaret, you were not the first to wish me happy b-day, however you were the first to put it on my blog.  So, thanks.  But, I have to give kudos to Beth (Life on Avenue Z), she put my B-day as a blog entry.  So gets the thumbs up.

So, what I should have wished for when blowing out the candle on my flan, was to not to get sick.  So, yes, Chan family, boil those sheets and disinfect everything!  What I thought were allergies, which it probably started as, became more.  I also thought i was warm because I soaked in the rays on Friday.  I know I know, sun block and blah blah blah.  Hey – at least I did not put on oil or anything.  I was red as a lobster and feeling the burn!

Well, I felt ok, but my left nostril, the right one if you are looking at me, was pretty clogged up, but I did not feel tired.  When I got up the next day, around 5 am (had a 830am plane) I felt just clogged.  I slept pretty much the 5 hours it took us to get to Newark.

Let me tell you, I will not complain about a baby crying when the plane lands.  If it was anything like what my ears felt like, I am surprised I wasn’t wailing myself.  Damn, did it hurt.  It felt like a sharp steel kebab thingy was sticking in my ear and nothing was getting it out.  It really hurt.  And i as an adult could say something while all the baby could do is scream.  Hey – no more complaints from me.  However, I still complain about the kid kicking the back of my seat.

So, here I was in Newark, and I used up the handful of tissues I liberated from Marla’s bathroom, and I was halfway through with the small packet of tissues that Marla gave me in the car.  And I am roaming around like I was lost.  Which I kind of was.  My head was stuffed up, my ear hurt (I finally blew my nose hard enough that I unclogged myself) and I was kind of, sort of hungry, since I slept through “breakfast” service on the plane.  I was looking for my last meal in the US.  There was Sbarros, since I missed Racenelli’s in St. Louis, but I had that at the mall.  McD’s was really not an option.  Then I hit on Nathan’s.  Hey, I needed a hot dog.  It was pretty good, but some one needs to remind me why I paid $2.50 for a skinny hot dog?  Is this back to the “I keep my head in the sand about pricing thing again?”  It may be so, but a skinny hot dog for $2.50???  Oh well.

So, after the dogs, i was getting stuffed up again.  I think I would have enjoyed it more if I was not so stuffed up.  I think I read somewhere that the smell helps the taste buds or something, so when you are plugged you cannot really taste anything.  I think it is true.

SIDE NOTE:  i am sure all of you are aware, but I will mention it anyways.  When your nose is plugged up, eat and drink carefully because it is difficult to breathe through your mouth if your mouth is engaged in eating.  Eating and sucking wind does not go well together.  I am not sure how many times i had to spit out some food (I know it’s gross) because I took a big bite and then could not breath.

Anyways, when i got on the pane, I started to realize how drained i was, again, just thinking about how early i woke up.  Hey – bonus, the middle seat was empty…ya hoo.  I felt sick – bummer.

So, I think I got up about 3-4 times replenishing my tissues, i used up all I had and had to get up and go to the restroom to get some more.  My nose started to get that itch and start hurting since i was not using Puffs Plus tissues.  I am sure those around me did not appreciate knowing that I was sick and was blowing my nose constantly.  Ok, I admit it, some of it was because of the movie.  August Rush was playing.

SIDE NOTE:  There is no row 13 and the row before the exit row, the seats do not recline.  ARGH!!  Needless to say, I did not get as much sleep as i could have gotten.

So, i got off the plane and when i saw my luggage, i just groaned.  The lock was not on my suitcase.  So, I do understand if the UK customs had to chop it off.  But wait . . . it the US TSA.  Damn them . . . they chopped off the TSA approved lock I bought from the US.  ARGHHHHH!!!  Here’s an extra ARGHHH!!  Darn them, if they have to chop off the darn lock, why approve locks in which they have keys to them!!!  Bummer.

So, at least there was nothing missing, or at least I do not think so, since my luggage is still sitting in my living room, waiting to be unpacked, and like i have enough room as it is.  {SIGH}  Yes, that was a big sigh.

So, I sailed through customs, got my stuff, and the taxi I arranged (5 weeks ago) was not there.  I called the guy and what do you know, he forgot about me; however, he was the 2nd taxi in line, so all in all not too bad, but what a friggering pain.  You think you did something right . . . I will need to try some one else next time.  Got another add in the paper about a shuttle/taxi service.

So, longer story short, i got home, dumped my stuff, found my left over meds from last time, took many pills, and crashed for 2 days.  Yes, that is correct, 2 days.  i am not even sure if i woke up anytime.  But i must have because when I finally was somewhat lucid, i saw a bunch of little foil thingys opened and the bottle of aspirin looked half empty.  But then i am not sure how full it was in the first place.

SIDE NOTE:  I put on my pants and felt like I lost a few pounds.  But hey, not eating for 3 days could do that to a person.  Not recommended way to lose weight, the Being Sick Method.  Pros vs cons, rather be overweight than sick.

So, I am back to work, I think in my sickness I lost a few days.  So, that’s about it.  I just feel weak and tired, and I have some suitcases to unpack and food to buy.  I believe my cupboards are somewhat bare.  But I feel too tired to do anything tonight.  But then I am going against my hate to shop on Friday night, remember the last time you did was crowded, hate it hate it hate it.

Ok, so I guess I am going tonight just to buy the essentials.  Bread and cold cuts for sandwiches.  I’ll probably change my mind by the time I get to my car.

Later.  Now if only they did not take away my word count, I probably would have ended this post 300 words ago and made another entry, but noooo.  You guys now had to suffer through the entire thing wondering when she was going to stop typing.
